Participatory Budgeting

 

Community Engagement

The Duwamish Tribe's first participatory budgeting event was held at the Duwamish Longhouse on August 19th, 2023.

 
 

Duwamish Tribal Services submitted eight project proposals created by five focus groups of Duwamish Tribal Members.

 

Project Selection

The Participatory Budgeting Project team selected the “Duwamish Community Center” project to be included on the public ballot.

Above is the written project submission for the “Duwamish Community Center” project created by the “Youth and Children“ focus group at the Duwamish Longhouse engagement event in August 2023.

Public Voting

In November 2023, the public voted on paper ballots (below) and online (right) on the top project proposals for the City to fund.

Six of the 18 projects were approved by the public, with the top voted project being:

Native Youth: Past, Present, Future ($7.2M): Duwamish centered community center would offer recreational, educational, and cultural programs that foster community engagement, promote well-being, and support cultural preservation.
